House bill proposes naming the sugar cookie Ohio’s state cookie



A bill in the Ohio House would designate the sugar cookie because the official cookie of Ohio.

House Bill 235 states “The cookie with the primary elements of sugar, flour, butter, eggs, and vanilla, commonly referred to as the sugar cookie, is adopted as the official cookie of the state.”

The bill is sponsored by Representatives Jessica Miranda (D-Forest Park) and Brigid Kelly (D-Cincinnati).

The Cincinnati Enquirer studies third-graders at Sycamore Township Catholic Faculty helped create the bill.

The newspaper stories that the students spent months researching state cookies and which would match Ohio the perfect and approached lawmakers with their concept.

Of their analysis, they found pioneers in southwest Ohio traded sugar as a commodity.
